Brief Description of activities performed

MPLADS              The scheme of Member of Parliament Local Area Development schemes (MPLADS) has started in 1993-1994 envisaged  for the developmental works being undertaken with the recommendation of the Hon’ble M.Ps of both Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha, based locally felt needs with the emphasis on creation of durable assets. Annual allocation of fund for 2(two) Lok Sabha M.Ps of this district is Rs.4.00 crore, Rs.2.00 crore being for each MP. Keeping such principle in view, the various schematic works which are being executed by different executing agencies  like Panchayat Raj Bodies, Educational  Institutions, reputed N.G.Os, Registered Libraries etc.  are being supervised, inspected as regards quality and precision of the work done according to the vetted plan and estimate

This district is the Nodal district in respect of : 
1) Shri Somnath Chatterjee, M.P. 41 Bolpur Parliamentary Constituency
2)   Dr. Ram Chandra Dome, M.P. 42 Birbhum (SC) Parliamentary Constituency 
3) Shri Pranab Mukherjee, erstwhile  M.P. Rajya Sabha. 

Over and above this district is in receipt of funds from Hon’ble M.Ps of Rajya Sabha

BEUP   :     The Government of West Bengal introduced Bidhayak Elaka Unnayan Prakalpa (BEUP) in the financial year 2000-2001 where for every member of the Legislative Assembly of the State a sum of Rs.15.00 lakh was provided for that year. In the year 2001-2002 this amount has been increased to Rs.25.00 lakh ; with this fund, the Hon’ble M.L.As are to formulate development schemes according to the felt needs of the people for  his/her respective constituency areas according to the guidelines of Development & Planning Department, Government of West Bengal time to time.

                    In Birbhum there are 12 (twelve) Assembly Constituencies  viz. 283-Nanur(SC), 284-Bolpur, 285-Labpur, 286-Dubrajapur, 287- Rajnagar(SC), 288-Suri, 289-Mahammad Bazar, 290-Mayureswar(SC), 291-Rampurhat, 292-Hansan(SC), 293-Nalhati and 294-Murarai. 

PUP    :   Paschimanchal Unnayan Parshad (PUP) was established by the Govt. of West Bengal in 2000 especially for the 5(five) districts of Purulia, Midnapore (Western Part), Bankura, Burdwan and Birbhum emphasizing on generation of productive employment, enhancement of irrigation potential, removal of regional disparity, setting up of the community schemes for group activities of individual beneficiaries below poverty line and preferably SCs and STs infrastructure development creating upon improvement of quality of live with the implication to provide additional financial support to the normal budgetary allotment of all departments, basically meant for plugging the critical gap of developments.

          In Birbhum District Murarai-I, Nalhati-1,  Rampurhat-I, Bolpur-Sriniketan, Illambazar, Suri-1, Mahammad Bazar, Rajnagar, Dubrajpur and Khoyrasole Blocks fall within the purview of the PUP area. While selecting schemes emphasize have been given providing drinking water facilities, excavation and re-excavation of tanks, construction of field channels, for Jore-bundhs,  SSKs, Primary/Junior High School buildings, ICDS Centres, Health Sub Centres in the rural, especially in tribal inhabited area. 

RSVY    : Rastriya Sam Vikas Yojana (RSVY) in a plan where financial grant is being made directly by the Planning Commission of India through the Development and Planning Department of the Government of West Bengal has been launched in the year 2004-2005 to bridge the inequalities in different spares of development comprising Agriculture, fishery, Animal Resources Development, Irrigation including Minor Irrigation, Cottage and Small Scale Industries, Health and Family Welfare, SSKs, Angnwadri ( ICDS ) Centres. Keeping this in mind the annual action plan of RSVY for 2004-2005 to 2006-2007 have been prepared and the plan for 2004-2005 has been prepared with schematic details covering the sectors as stated above.
