Historical Interest

v Kaleswar Siva Mandir  ð  Situated under Mayureswar Police Station,  Birbhum on the Road from Sainthia to Kandi, Murshidabad (17 K.M. State High Way) turning  right from Kaleswar more 3 K.M. distance to the  Temple. The Temple was established by Sri Raja  Ramjiban of village Dheka under this block in 10th -11th Century. The Temple was constructed   following “Nabaratra” concept. The Temple is  famous for its height. A village fair every year held in “Sivaratri”. People of 50-60 village are  assembled in the fair. The Temple is an notable sculpture in the district, Birbhum. 

v  Gunutia Amrah Kuthi ð  Debris of “Kuthi” of “Bengal Silk Company” situated at ‘Amra Village’ under Ulkunda G.P.  under this block at 19 K.M. distance from Block Head Quarter . Mr. Frosard was appointed as an Agent in 1780 by the East India Company and after his death Mr. John Cheep was appointed  as “Commercial Resident” . Debris of “Kuthi” is still exist.  

v  Madaneswar Siva Mandir   ð Situated at Kotasur village behind the B.D.O’s Office, 7 K.M. distance from Sainthia Railway Jn. On the Road of Sainthia –Berhampore State way. It has mythical importance. There is hearsay that Mother Kunti alongwith Pancha-Pandab and Droupadi took shelter during there living incognito perio at Kotasur linked with “Ekchakra Nagori”. More rumer is that there is large size lamp of stone as a symbol of “Kunti Pradeep”. 

v Dheka    ð The village is situated 3 K.M. distance from Kaleswar under Mayureswar Police Station. Village Dheka is well known as the resident of Zamindar Raja Ramjiban who constructed a large pond named “Ramsayar”
